Black Bird

Blackbird.jpg

Often, the sweet, melancholy, solitary voice of the male blackbird will be heard high in a tree top or power line in the evening as the sun goes down.

Although not native to NZ the Blackbird helps to disperse the seeds of fleshy–fruited understorey plants in native forests. Introduced to New Zealand in 1862, they do not pose any obvious threat or competition to our native species.
